8 Ways to Bring Nature Indoors

By Andrew Bellino

There is just something so comforting about Mother Nature, which is why bringing nature indoors is an excellent way to add touch of relaxation and sophistication to your home. Adding a touch of the Great Outdoors to your interior décor is something that you can easily do without breaking your budget. Here are 8 easy ways to bring nature indoors – and to bring a bit of serenity into your abode. Let’s get started.

1 OPEN WINDOWS
Perhaps one of the easiest ways to bring the outdoors indoors is through the windows. You don’t have to lose your sense of security in order to let the light flow into your home; cover your windows with light and airy sheers and you will instantly bring a touch of nature into your home without giving up your privacy. This is a perfect idea for spring, when the sun starts shining!

2 FABRICS
Another great way to bring the outdoors in is with fabrics. Think light fabrics that pay homage to the Great Outdoors. Fabrics like jute, linen and cotton are ideal for adding a natural touch to any space, and they can be incorporated in a variety of ways, through pillows, blankets, floor coverings and curtains.

3 FLOORING
If your budget does allow for it, you can add a touch of the outdoors into your home by redoing the floors with natural materials. Natural woods, like pine or bamboo, will instantly add a natural appeal. Other options to consider to create that natural vibe include cork, slate and flagstone. They’re sturdy and easy to clean, too.

4 WALL COLOURS
Another fairly simple way to bring the outdoors to the interior spaces of your home is through your paint color choices. Opt for colors that can be found in nature. Obvious choices include shades of blue, green, yellow and brown, but you can also opt for shades of red and even purple to mimic nature (think of a sunset or bouquet of flowers).

5 TILES
Tiles are an excellent way to add some nature into your home. There are so many different types of tiles, and so many that are made from natural materials. Use tiles that are made from materials that are harvested from the earth, like granite or marble, or opt for fabricated tiles that are made to resemble these natural materials (they are beautiful and kinder to the earth).

6 DECORATIVE ACCENTS
Look to the outdoors for the decorative accents in your home. Gather collections of lovely rocks and display them in glass jars. Fill bowls with pinecones, twigs or acorns. Use pieces of driftwood as sculptures in your home. There are so many different options for natural decorative accents.

7 ART WORK
Display works of art that showcase the Great Outdoors. Capture images of forests, flowers, beaches or mountains, frame them and hang them as artwork. Purchase a landscape painting, or create your own, and hang it in your home.

8 PLANT LIFE
Another great way to bring the outdoors in is with actual plants. Display living trees throughout your home in order to really create a sense of nature in your living space.

There is nothing more calming and grounding than the Great Outdoors. Which of these natural home decorating ideas speaks to you?
